Question
My husband tells me he has been sober for two months. I can only hope this is true because when he was drinking he always lied. He has been going to AA meetings twice week though. Anyway, he suddenly has been acting very strange. He says he is just tired because he hasn't had a good night sleep, but to me he seems drunk. By evening he slurs, staggers, and has blackouts. Is this symptomatic of PAWS?
Answer
Hi there:
As you know, going to meetings doesn't mean that your husband is not drinking and it sounds to me like he started drinking again.
Here are the symptoms of Post Alcohol Withdrawl Symptoms (PAWS):
TYPES OF PAW SYMPTOMS
1. Inability to think clearly
2. Memory problems
3. Emotional overreactions or numbness
4. Sleep disturbances
5. Physical coordination problems
6. Stress sensitivity
The most defining characteristic is the inability to think clearly,
I hope this is helpful,
