Question
Jurriaan
I am 53. Sine I was a teenager I was a binge drinker.
At Xmas after some heavy drinking I got a big scare when my belly got very distended, the skin got red and veins on it became very visible.I think my liver digestive system was inflamed.
I saw a doctor and tests came back normal (they always do).
I decide to try to go cold turkey.
Its only been a month now and I havent had a drop, and have been taking milk thistle daily.
I didnt see any improvements in belly/digestion until a couple weeks ago.I woke up one morning and my belly felt softer-not hard and bloated like before-and I had to cinch my belt in a notch.
Then I noticed pains like runners stitches, though not as severe, on my right side. This side is slightly more bloated than the left, but somewhat less than before. The pain has lessened but there is still a faint tingle.
All I can think of is my liver less inflamed and swollen and the muscles on that side are unstretching? The pain feels muscular but I did nothing to cause it. It reminds me of when I pulled a back muscle once and the pain I felt as it was healing.
Either way it feels like something good is happening!
Answer
HI bud,
It is good to hear that you have given up drinking. But your pain must be investigated by a doctor, before we can do anything else. Alcoholics usually have an inflamed liver which happens to be on the left side.
As to overcoming alcoholism nutritionally I suggest you read:
Why Alcoholics Drink? at

Alcoholism (Addiction) is a Treatable Disease at:

Drug Addiction is a Nutritional Disorder at:

The first step in treatment is going on a hypoglycemic diet. If problems persist, it is best to consult a Nutritional Doctor, Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychologist.
Use our "Search our Web Site" for more information on terms entered into the search engine.
Your persistent pain needs to be dealt by a doctor. I hope you can resolve the problem.
