People who smoke skunk (a special type of hashish, with a strong odor), are at greater risk of mental illness such as schizophrenia, than those who smoke other types of hashish, a study suggests.
In the study, British experts have found that regular smokers "grass" are subject to twice the risk of psychosis, however, the fans skunk this risk increases sevenfold. The results were obtained and published in the British Journal of Psychiatry week after the dismissal of the chief pharmaceutical adviser to Britain, who criticized the government's decision on the classification of cannabis and transfer it from Class C to Class B (more harmful).
The study authors believe that the results of their work emphasize the importance of the influence of cannabis and its various types of mental health, which harm can be equated to alcohol. However, drug use is responsible only for 10 - 15% of mental illness, and risk factors such as heredity, play a much bigger role, experts stressed.
