New Christmas lamp can be hazardous to health

Approximately one-third Christmas lamps, are sold in the European Union, are dangerous to health, UNIAN reports.

This was stated today at a press conference, EU Commissioner for Consumer Protection Melena Kuneva, presenting the results of a study conducted by the European Commission.

According to her study, about one third of the electric lamps can hit you shock or a fire in your homes. The study was conducted in 5 countries - EU member states in the period from November 2007 to May 2009 and seized 196 different models of electric lamps.

However, according to the study, almost 40% of all the lamps, which can be dangerous to humans, were imported from China. Recall that in 2008 Christmas-tree garland caused the death of 24-year-old resident of Novosibirsk. Dressing up the tree, the woman took the cord and got a fatal discharge current.

The press-service police department reminded that buying from the stalls lamps and fireworks, people are putting themselves at considerable risk. To protect themselves from unwanted injuries, it is best to buy lamps and pyrotechnics only in specialized shops.
