Hospital Noise several times over the allowable

In the hospital wards of public health institutions significantly exceeded the recommended level of noise, which disturbs the normal recreation of patients, the researchers said.

The results of two independent studies have shown that the noise of chattering visitors and calls to mobile phones is much higher than the permissible level of noise in hospitals. Experts have found that the noise reached 60 to 90 decibels. According to representatives of the World Health Organization, the noise in the hospital premises should not exceed 35 decibels, which can be compared to a conversation in a whisper.

In the study, hospital nurses Newcastle recorded the noise level. It turned out that sometimes the noise was nearly 100 decibels, roughly the noise occurs when lawnmowers, explained experts. To the surprise of scientists, hospitals, where inpatient treated people who were quite noisy places.

Experts have decided to take some measures to reduce the noise level at the example of two hospitals. It was recommended to switch the phone in vibration mode, do not talk on cell phones, wear shoes with soft soles, limit the time to visit the sick and ask visitors to behave as quietly as possible. Such measures have helped an average of 20% to reduce noise. This is important, as troubled rest and sleep can hinder the healing process, say scientists.
