7 countries to reduce CO2 emissions by 30%

Poland believes that the European Union can not take on increased commitments to reduce emissions of CO2 in the atmosphere without a detailed assessment of the situation. This was announced at the Copenhagen Conference of the United Nations to counter climate change.

The aim to reduce emissions by more than 20% can not be solved by the EU only at the political level, in Copenhagen, but must be based on an assessment of the consequences that must be submitted by the European Commission to the European Council in March, says Minister for European Affairs of Poland, Mikolaj Dovgilevich.

The Minister noted that the assessment should be made in accordance with the mandate given to EU leaders in December 2008 the European Commission concerning the evaluation of the possible consequences for the EU to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 30%.

At the same time M. Dovgilevich expressed hope that in this case, a new global agreement on reducing emissions of CO2 in the atmosphere may be reached at the next United Nations conference in Mexico City in December 2010.

However, Britain and Denmark, representing a group of 7 countries - EU members, which also includes Sweden, France, Finland, Germany and Spain, think it possible now to declare its readiness to reduce CO 2 emissions by 30% compared to 1990 year.
